What is the immunological result for a baby when a mother is vaccinated?
A baby can develop immunity via the mother’s antibodies.
A newborn is less likely to develop influenza.
What is the trade name for DTaP?
Boostrix
If a mother receives DTaP in pregnancy, should a baby be immunised with DTaP as outlined in the Immunisation Schedule?
Yes. DTaP protection via maternal vaccinations is temporary.
What two ways is a foetus protected from Pertussis if a mother is immunised with Boostrix?
1) Transit of mother’s antibodies across the placenta.
2) Mother is protected from catching Pertussis and passing it to her baby.
