Aristocracy/gentry who were hereditary landowner
Real tennis, pedestrianism, cricket
Lower class description with sport examples:
Peasants who worked manually, on the land
Mob football, dog fighting
Gender, upper and lower class differences:
Both participated in activities that weren’t dangerous or too strenuous
Upper: Archery
Lower: Smock races
Law and order, upper and lower class differences:
Both had very little law and order
Lower had more lack of -> mob football had few rules etc..
Education, upper and lower class differences:
Upper: Educated and literate, sophisticated games
Lower: Uneducated and illiterate, simple activities with few rules
Availability of time, upper and lower class differences:
Upper: Longer lasting activities
Lower: Worked long hours so little time/energy -> bare knuckle fighting
Availability of money, upper and lower class differences:
Upper: Could afford horses etc..
Lower: Had no money to spend on physical activities
Availability of transport, upper and lower class differences
Upper: Horses, could travel further
Lower: Simple games played within a single village
