Takeoff Alternate
An alternate aerodrome at which an aircraft can land, should it become necessary after takeoff, and unable to use departure aerodrome.
En-Route Alternate
An aerodrome along the route at which an aircraft can land after experiencing an abnormal/emergency condition while en-route.
ETOPS Alternate

ETOPS Operations
Two engine aeroplanes, approved by authority to operate beyond normal threshold distance from an alternate aerodrome.
3% En Route Alternate (ERA)
Contingency fuel is reduced to 3%
Takeoff Alternate must be located within:
Operator’s approved ETOPS diversion time, or a maximum of 120 minutes (2hrs) irrespective of higher rating.
Destination Alternates must be selected if the flight does not exceed?
6 hours, and two separate runways are available at the destination.
MET Forecasts will show good weather 1hr before and after ETA.
Meteorological Conditions for destination aerodrome
2000ft ceiling, or circling height +500ft
Visibility 5km
When must two destination alternates be selected?
Weather may be below minima during 1hr before, or after ETA.

Expected weather conditions at destination/alternate are at or above the planning minima.
