Prayer Flashcards
What is prayer?
- A way of communicating with God through words and actions.
- Jewish people can pray anywhere, but it is seen as more meaningful to pray with the community at the synagogue.
What is the shema prayer?
-The Shema prayer can be found in the Torah which shares a belief in one God.
-e.g. it says “Adonai echad” which means “The Lord is one”
– Jewish people will pray the most important prayer in their religion, the Shema prayer, every morning, and night so they are always thinking about and worshipping, one God.
What is the Amidah prayer?
-The Amidah, along with the Shema, is one of the core three daily prayers said during synagogue services.
- Jewish people will stand when saying the Amidah prayer and face Israel
-e.g. it’s says “God most high”
- -Orthodox Jews will make sure to attend the synagogue to pray the Amidah as part of the Jewish community. This will use this time to connect with God, as whilst saying this prayer they believe they are in the presence of God.
