Define a more knowledgeable other
Other people who play a significant role in advancing a child’s development; this could be an adult figure or a sibling.
Define object permanence
Understanding a person/object exists even if not within a child’s vision
Define goal directed behaviour
Understanding that actions have consequences/effects, e.g. kicking a ball involves movement of said ball or taking Calpol because it cures a headache.
Define egocentrism
Children assume others share their points of view. Due to egocentrism, children will engage in collective monologues, in which each child is talking, but not interacting with other children.
Define sociodramatic play
Linguistic term for ‘pretend play’, e.g. a child pretending a broom is a horse.
