Practice Questions Flashcards
What type of data is gender?
Nominal
Trends in the incidence of coronary heart disease and changes in diet and lifestyle in
women would be an example of a Cohort study
FALSE (So the review in our Google drive actually says true…this woman must b
v. confused)
When using PICO terms the “P” and “I” are the most useful.
FALSE (IC…most “ic-portant”…remember?)
PUBMED used in the UMMK portal is the same as PUBMED.gov because they have
the same database and will provide same access to full text journals.
No
What statistical test would you use for nominal (independent groups) data?
Chi-square
Patients asks “Will fluoride help prevent decay?” Decay is what part of PICO?
O - Outcome
Effect size can be calculated by using an online calculator if you know the sample
size and mean.
No, it considers standard deviation and mean
External validity allows you to generalize the study…
Beyond the subjects (Think…external validity is being able to take a controlled
experiment and see those same results outside the experiment in a real-life setting. We
want to see these same results beyond just the participants in the study and see it in
other people who aren’t test subjects too! Having really high internal validity (all of these
controls and stipulations) makes it harder to have external validity (see people under
these same conditions with similar effects)
What kind of error occurs when the researcher decides who is going to be studied?
Selection Bias
