Practical Info/ Theory Flashcards
Benefits of massage
Relaxes the client & facial muscles
Stimulates blood and lymph circulation
Improves overall metabolism and activate sluggish skin
Helps muscle tone
Helps cleanse the skin of impurities and softens sebum
Helps slough off dead skin cells
Reduces puffiness and sinus congestion
Help product absorption
Relieve tension and pain
Provides a sense of physiological and psychological well-being
Contraindications for massage
Skin disorders
Severe redness/ sunburn
Inflamed acne
Severe uncontrolled hypertension
Contagious disorder
Benefits of masks
Have long term benefits
Draw impurities out of pore, clear up blemishes
Tighten and tone the skin
Hydrate
Nourish and calm
Rejuvenate
Improve appearance of skin and refine pores
Benefits of serums
Concentrated ingredients that target specific skin conditions
Formulated with smaller molecules that are able to penetrate further into the skin making it more effective
Have performance Ingredients (vitamins, lipids, antioxidants)
Effects of positive pole
Acidic reaction
Soothes nerves
closes the pores
Contracts blood vessels
Decrease blood supply
Constricts the follicles
Releases oxygen
Hardens and firms tissue
Effects of the negative pole
Alkaline reaction
Opens the pores
Stimulates and irritates the nerves
Increase blood supply
Releases hydrogen which reacts with the sodium causing sodium hydroxide creating soap sips which cleans the follicle and softens the sebum
Expands blood vessels
Softens tissues
Galvanic current
Constant and direct current in a low frequency
Has a positive and negative pole and produces chemical changes
These effects are produced when a galvanic current is passed through the tissue, fluids of the body and watery solutions of salt and acids
Contraindications to the galvanic machine
Same goes for ionization
Metal (implants, braces, pacemaker, IUD etc)
Jewelry
Hyper sensitive skin especially couperose
Pregnant woman, thyroid problems
High blood pressure
Cancer
Extra under ionization:
Epilepsy
If Redness of the skin occurs during treatment
General effects of the galvanic machine
Generates cell expanding reaction or hyperaemia
Relaxes pores
Client may experience slight metallic taste in the mouth due to a change of pH in the saliva
Chemical changes
Acids form around the anode which have an astringent effect
Chemical reaction at the cathode causes a relaxation of pores
Des-incrustation
Removes excess sebum and waste matter (emulsifies sebum)
This process is called SAPONIFICATION; it created soap suds in the surface of the skin
Softens and breaks down hardened sebum
Cannot be done on broken skin or active breakouts
Treats acne, milia, comedones
A direct galvanic current is used to penetrate an alkaline solution
Negative pole = alkaline effect
Helps to begin a drying effects on oily conditions
Chemical effects are produced (electrolysis)
Ionization
Introducing an element of chemical substances that have been decomposed by electro lysis into the human body
Facilitates deeper penetration of products into the skin
Cleaning instructions for galvanic tools
(1) wash Galvanic tool tip and ionizing tool tip with soap and brush under tap, (do not wash handle part!) (2) dry with paper towel (3) put tools tip facing down in the cup filled with preempt solution for 3 mins (4) take out and dry again with paper towel (5) wipe the metal rod tool (that client holds ) and both handles of galvanic and ionizing tools with the preempt wipes and put away
