practical 2- submax Flashcards
1
Q
6 Reasons to stop any test
A
- Reaches the ceiling HR (85% of 220-age)
- Asks to stop
- Shows signs of physiological distress ( angina, respiratory distress etc)
- Failure of HR and SBP to increase w work rate
- DBP drops >10, SBP >250, DBP> 115
- Cant maintain cadence
2
Q
mCAFT
A
- Fit HR monitor
- Take resting HR + BP (determine 85% 220-age)
- Determine start stage based of gender/age (3 women/ 4 men)
- At end of stage have them stand still and palpate HR for 10 sec + RPE
- If HR< 85% have go till next stage until >85%
Back step is used for last stage of women (8) and 7+8 for men
3
Q
Treadmill walking test (ebbeling)
A
- Fit HR monitor
- Determine HR max and 50% and 70% of this
- Client warms up for 4 mins (0% grade) that elicits HR bw 50-70% (3.4-4.0)
- Keep same speed but increase grade 5% for 4 mins
- Record HR during final 15 sec of each min + RPE in last min up warmup and workload
- If steady state bw
3+4 min cool off subject if not do one more min
4
Q
Cycle ergometer
A
- Fit HR monitor
- Determine 85% max HR
- 1st workload set to .5 kg
- Record HR at end of every minute
- If HR is not steady b/w 2nd and 3rd min another min is added
- For 2nd stage use HR of last minute to determe workoload (<80= 2.5, 80-90= 2 etc)
- For stage 3 and above increase by .5kg every time
- Stop when subject reaches 85% or within 10bpm of it
5
Q
One mile walk Test
A
- Subject walks one mile as quickly as possible and HR is taken in final minute of walking
6
Q
Recovery for these tests
A
3 minute active recovery ( 2 more if they need it)
-HR at every min
Passive recovery for 3 (BP at 1 + 3 mins)
cutoffs HR>99, SBP >144, DBP >90
