Tape Measure Method
Tape Measure Alignment:
Baseline-Midline of spine between PSIS
Superior End-15cm above baseline mark
Patient Actions:
Patient is instructed to flex forward as far as possible while
keeping their knees extended
Therapist Action:
As the patient moves through their ROM, the tape measure is
held firmly at the baseline and unwinds
Documentation:
The difference between the superior mark and the spinal flexion
mark (N-15cm)
Norm: 2-7cm
Lumbar Spine Flexion
Finger to Floor Method
Measure the distance from the tip of the patients middle finger to the floor
Lumbar Spinal Extension
Tape Measure Marks
Baseline and superior end (0-15cm)
Patients Action
Hands on waist, extend spine while keeping knees extended
Therapist Action:
As the patient moves through their ROM, the tape measure is
held firmly at the baseline and unwinds
Documentation:
