Hip Flashcards
Extensor strength test
1 joint (max, Adductor Magnus) 2 joint (hamstring)
Tightness hip flexors
Decrease force length curve 1 Joint (iliopsoas, add longus) 2 Joint (RF,TFL,Sartorius) Thomas test Weakness in extensors, abductors
Abduction strength test
TFL (slight flex with abduction) GM (pelvis hip and abd) Gluteus medius and min (control ER/IR) Demand increase with walking and level activity Stabalize pelvis Trendelnberg
Trendelenburg
Single limb stand Contralateral hip off COM over hip Trunk lean toward weak side Ipsilateral trunk lean
Labral tears
Capsular laxity FAI acetabular dysphasia Chondral lesion Pain sharp and dull Increase pain at night clicking and catching
Fibrocartilaginous Rim
Over articular cartilage around perimeter of acetabular rim
Functions to deepen hip socket
Maintain neg intra articular pressure and increase stability
Labral tear objective exam
Limb walking short distances
Limited ROM with and without capsular pattern (IR>Flex>Abd=ext)
Positive FAI, FABER
hypermobile hip joint accessory motion
Trochanteric bursitis
Decrease friction (between ITB, glut med/min, and greater trochanter)
Excessive shear/compression leads to bursa inflamed and pain
MOI-fall lateral hip, repetitive flex and extension activity
Symptoms-lateral hip pain
Aggravating-ipsilateral side laying, repeated flex/ext in weight-bearing
Objective-positive ober test (ITB length restriction)
