Practical Flashcards

1
Q

Describe how you would conduct a practical to see the reaction times of people

A
  1. Person 1 should sit at a table with good posture, with their dominant hand outstretched and their hand overhanging off the table
  2. Person 2 should hold a meter ruler and hold it with the 0cm mark at level with person 1s thumb.
  3. Person 2 should drop the ruler at a random time and person 1 should close their finger and thumb together to catch the ruler as quickly as possible
  4. Person 2 should look at the value on the ruler just above person 1s thumb and record it in a table. Repeat the steps multiple times to get a mean value, amking sure to start with the 0cm mark level with the thumb and the thumb and first finger kept the same distance apart. Then take the mean value and use a conversion chart to convert it into a reaction time
  5. Now, repeat the whole experiment again, chnging a variable like giving peron 1 a stimulus of caffiene from coffee or playing loud background noise to see if this affects the measurements from the ruler from where it was caught and thus the reaction times

Q

Name some control variables in the reaction time practical

A

The distance between the thumb and the first finger before dropping

Making sure the 0cm mark on the ruler is level with the thumb before each drop

Making sure if the domninat hand is used, it isn’t changed
