_ team members bring expertise on : competitivity/ technology/ market drivers

we have 2 dimensions :
_ newness of product (innovation)
_ familiarity of product ( risk )
the evolution of these 2 dimensions lead to 3 areas of growth
_core growth
_ adjacecy growth (one of 2 dimensions trying to grow)
_breakthrough growth ( one of 2 dimensions are aiming to reach a completely new market or product)

to develop new product ideas Pm should :
_ visit customer/trade shows / brain storming / customer co creation.
source of these ideas : customer research / R & D / supply chain initiative
strategic filter : so many ideas do not survive so we need to create a check list :
_fit with product plan / patentability/ risk of competitive entry
cooper has proposed a stage gate process to visualize NPD . Describe the concept
stage gate is a sequential step process where you go through several stages of decision gates points
provide an overview of the major failure and success of innovation
failure : _ innovation for wrong reason _ overestimate market needs _ underestimate cost _legal issues
success : _product fit market _corporate synergy _ quality of product _ high envolved employees
explain important role of business case? what are main components
_business case is a structured proposal for investment in new product
_in order to get approval for a new type of product you need to develop business case
_ it should predict the outcome from this new product /service
main componants are : market( is there a need ) product ( functional ) industry (competition and position ) company ( fit corporate strategy)
