Powerplant Flashcards
From where is the Accessory Gearbox drive?
Angled Drive shaft from the Outer (HP) Shaft
What services are driven by the Accessory Gearbox?
Oil Pressure, scavenge pumps, High Pressure Fuel Pump, DC Starter/Generator, Permanent Magnetic Alternator.
What is the purpose of the Permanent Magnetic Alternator
Independent source of electrical power the FADEC, then the PEC
What happens to the display if the ED receives invalid Powerplant data?
Dashes
What Power Rating is scheduled when he Condition Levers are set to MIN/850?
MCR
What is the purpose of the MCL Key on the Engine Control Panel?
Achieves climb power (MCL), but reselects MCR on reaching cruise level.
How many presses of the RDC TOP Selector are required to set a power of 85%?
3
What is the maximum Torque that FADEC will schedule if the Power Levers are pushed past the Rating Detent?
125%
How can the Power Levers be moved aft of the Flight Idle Position?
Triggers underneath the Power Lever Handgrips.
When should Reverse Power be used?
Safety/Stopping performance reasons.
Following an Engine Flame-out what would be the first visual indication of a an auto-relight?
Increasing ITT (Indicated Turbine Temperature)
Under what conditions would FADEC schedule a Power Uptrim?
> 60% power position and low torque (25%) or low PRPM on one engine.
What conditions are required for the Power to be automatically reset from MTOP to MCP following an engine failure on Take-off?
AC BLEED selector moved from MIN, provided at least one bleed switch is ON.
At what NH does the Engine Over-speed Protection Circuit activate?
over 106%
How is the Engine Over-speed Protection Circuit tested?
Its used to shut off fuel on a normal engine shut down.
How is Fuel Heated before reaching the High Pressure Fuel Pump?
Pumped through fuel/oil heat exchanger.
What are the limits for checking the Engine Oil Level?
Within 15-30 minutes of engine shut down.
At what pressure should the Engine Oil Warning on the CWP illuminate?
44 psi
Why is the #2 Engine started first?
To pressurise the Emergency brake system.
What should make you suspect the one Engine Ignitor was faulty?
Every alternate start delayed by 8 seconds
What would FADEC’s response be to the failure of an Engine to light up?
After firing the second ignitors, it would abort start and shut-off fuel.
When would FADEC prevent an Engine Over-temperature during Start-up?
10C over 920C
How does FADEC identify a Hung start?
NH does not reach 50% within 70 seconds.
How does FADEC’s management of an Air-start from that of a ground-start?
Both ignitors activated, auto abort is inhibited and ITT not actively limited
How is the PCU Oil pump powered?
Reduction Gearbox
How is the Alternate Feather Pump powered?
28V DC from the opposite secondary busbar.
What does the green light on the Alternate Feather Pump Selector indicate?
Pump is running
What is the Propellor Blade Angle at which the “Hard” Fine Pitch Stop is set?
16 deg
What would happen if the Power Lever was inadvertently selected to Disc in flight.
Warning Audio sounds
When is Propellor Syncrophase not available?
Condition Levers set to 1020 RPM (Take-off and landing)
What happens if an Autofeather Test is no completed?
A/F TEST ABORT appears on ED
What conditions are required for Autofeather to ARM?
Power Levers above 60 deg PLA, Torque over 50%, Condition Levers at Max 1020.
What will activate the Autofeather?
Torque of effected engine falls below 25% for at least 3 seconds and PRPM below 80%.
What is the function of the AUPC?
Protects against failure conditions, driving the propeller to coarse blade angle.
When is use of RDC Np not permitted?
Cat II approaches and landing on a contaminated runway.
What is the minimum Voltage for a Battery Start of the Engine?
22v
How are Cautionary Messages first displayed on the ED?
In amber for 5 secs
What does a FADEC CWP Warning indicate?
Indicates failure of one FADEC channel.
What RPM should the propeller stabilise at following an Overspeed Governor failure?
1060 RPM (triggers at 1073 RPM
