Flight Controls Flashcards
What effect does Flap setting have on available Rudder Deflection?
Flaps up mechanical limit is +/- 12 deg, Flaps extended limit is +/- 18 deg
What is the function of the Yaw Damper?
Reduces the tendency of the aircraft to Dutch Roll.
How is the Rudder deflection affected by Airspeed?
Hydraulic pressure to the PCUs is progressively reduced as airspeed increases to limit rudder deflection for a given pedal input.
How would a Jam in the Rudder PCU be indicated?
PUSH OFF illuminating in the associated Rudder switch light.
If the Roll Disconnect Handle is pulled, which Controls would the RH Control Wheel operate?
Ailerons
What precaution must be taken before checking the Control Trims pre-flight?
Gust lock must be removed while the Aileron trim is exercised.
How are the Aerodynamic loads reduced?
Geared Tabs.
When are the Outboard Roll Spoilers active?
170 kts
What would be the indications of a Spoiler Cable Failure?
Both ROLL SPLR INB HYD and ROLL SPLR OUTBD HYD Cautions will illuminate.
What triggers the Ground Spoilers to extend on landing?
WOW sensors activated and PL
What is the function of FLIGHT/TAXI Switch on the Glareshield?
Retracts spoilers for Taxi
How is the integrity of the Elevator Control System protected from a control Jam.
Bungees
What is the function of “Automatic FLAP Pitch - TRIM”?
Reduces pitch and trim forces as the Flap travels between 15 deg and 35 deg with AP not engaged
What does illumination of the ELEVATOR TRIM SHUT OFF Switchlight indicate?
Trim-runaway
As well as moving the Flaps, what is the effect of moving the Flap selector from 0 deg to 5 deg?
Removes the +/- 12 Rudder restriction, PTU and SPU come on if park brake off
How could a FLAP POWER Caution be inadvertently generated in the ground?
Flap selection before HYD power
When do the Stall Protection Modules act independently and when do they act together?
Independently to activate stick shakers, but must act together to activate the stick pusher.
What other systems are affected by the activation of a stick shaker?
AP disengaged and GPWS Pull Up Audio is inhibited
Under what Flight conditions would the Stick Pusher be inhibited?
CAS > 215kts, Rad Alt
What would you see during a successful test of the stall warning system?
L+R Stick Shaker, #1 and #2 STALL SYST FAIL and PUSHER Cautions illuminate
What is the function of the REF SPEEDS Switch on the Over-head Panel?
Increases Stall reference speed by 20kts for icing conditions
What limitation applies if the Stick Pusher or one Stall Warning is inoperative?
AFT MAC Limit of 20%
What is the IAS limit for selection of FLAP 5?
200kts
What is the IAS limit for selection of FLAP 10?
181kts
What is the Limiting IAS for full control deflection?
204kts
What is the IAS limit for selection of FLAP 15?
172kts
What is the IAS limit for selection of FLAP 35?
158kts
What do the ELEVATOR FEEL, PITCH TRIM, SPLR OUTBD & RUD CTRL Cautions have in common?
All these systems receive IAS information from ADC and are disabled in the event of a IAS mismatch.
What is the effect of pushing one of the SPLR or RUD (PUSH OFF) Switchlights on the Glareshield?
Hydraulic Control Pressure to the Spoiler Extend part of the effected actuator is removed
What is indicated by a ROLL SPLR INBD GROUND Caution?
Failure of the Lift Dump function of the inboard spoilers.
