Powerplant Flashcards
What indication would you see if you have a hot/lop situation and what automatic protections exist?
1 IDG 1/2 caution message
- HOT = IDG auto disconnects
- LOP = shear pin shears
What’s the primary bleed source on the ground
APU - turns off in climb detention
Where would you enter an assumed temperature for use with FLEX thrust?
PERF MENU
When does the HPV open?
When 6th stage doesn’t supply enough pressure
What comprises the N1 and N2 sections?
- N1 = high pressure bypass fan, low pressure turbine
2. N2 = compressor, high pressure turbine
Whats the purpose of the sprague clutch on the accessory gear box?
- Allows the starting of the engine when it’s free spinning
2. FADEC will stop at 45%
How are thrust reverser actuated?
Electrically controlled, hydraulically actuated
What are normal/abnormal thrust modes
- TOGA/APR
- Climb/MCT thrust
- CRZ/Proportional
During single engine ops
Which ignition system will FADEC use to start an engine on battery power alone?
B
What would happen if you pressed HIGH PWR SCHEDULE
- Engine thrust changes
- Green switch light illumination
- ENG HI PWR SCHED advisory
When is APR armed?
When BOTH thrust levers are within 8% of TOGA
Does an engine start effect ISOL valve?
Yes it opens it
What’s max ITT during start
810*
What percentage of eng air is bypass and what percentage is core air?
- 85% bypass
2. 15% core
What is different about the first 4 stages of the N2 compressor?
Variable geometry
Describe variable geometry system
It prevents compressor stall and surge y adjusting the stator vanes in the N2 compressor section in the first 4 stages which are activated using high pressure fuel controlled by the FADEC
What is the function of the operability valve?
Offloads 10th stage compressor bleed air during high loads to prevent surge and stall
What actuates the operability valve?
FADEC by high pressure fuel
What is attached to the accessory gear box?
3 - oil, fuel, hydraulics
2 - IDG, FADEC alternator
1 - ATS
What compressor stages do we get bleed air?
- 6th stage normally
2. 10th stage under high loads
What purpose do we pull off bleed air?
- Starting
- Pressurization
- Anti-ice
How many injectors and how many igniters
18 objectors and 2 igniters ( A and B )
How are the thrust levers connected to the Fuel Metering Unit?
Electrically
When will the FADEC deactivate the APR
After landing
Describe the auto-relight function
The FADEC will try 3 times and then the engine will flameout. It does so by energizing both the A and B igniters
How much thrust in the max power detent.
14,510 lbs.
How are the A and B igniters powered?
A - through the AC essential bus
B - through the battery bus
How close must the N1s be in order to achieve syncing
1 1/2 percent
What protection prevents engine over speed
The FADEC at 107% N2
