What is power?
To have control over a person or environment. Power is the ability to get things done.
What is power relations?
The sharing of power between two people in a relationship. In an unequal power relationship, one person tends to dominate over the other.
When is power relations unequal?
In some relationships one partner is dominant and the other submissive/meek
What is the difference between femininity and masculinity?
Femininity:
- Female sex
- Ways behaved as a female
Masculinity:
- Male sex
- Ways behaved as a male
What is the definition of gender, sex and stereotype.
Gender: role in society expected to fill depending on whether you are a male or female.
Sex: a trait that determines whether a sexually reproducing organism produces male or female gametes
Stereotype: when a group of people are judged based on a single quality of characteristic
What are the biological traits of a male?
Larger hearts and lungs
More muscular
Better sense of direction
Puberty is later
Handle sleep deprivation better
Not as sensitive to smell
What are the biological traits of a female?
Larger kidney and thyroid gland
Better at multitasking
Puberty is earlier
Show signs of sleep deprivation
