Power and energy transfer Flashcards
Where do energy transfers occur?
Electrical appliances.
How do you work out the amount of energy transferred in an appliance?
E=Pt
What do E, P and T mean in the equation E=Pt
E= energy in joules
(J)
(J)
P
=
P= power in watts (W)
t= time in seconds (s)
What is a power rating?
The maximum power an appliance can safely operate at or maximum energy transferred per second by the appliance.
What is an equation to work out power?
P=VI
What do P,V and I stand for in the equation P=VI?
P= power in watts (W)
V= potential difference in volts (V)
I= current in amps (A)
If you don’t know the potential difference what is the equation to work out power?
P=I squared x R
What does R stand for in the equation.
R= resistance in ohms (Ω)
