cells Flashcards
What is the site of anaerobic respiration?
Cytoplasm
What is the site of protein synthesis?
Ribosome
How many chromosomes does the human skin cell contain?
46 (23 pairs).
What does the acrosome do to help the sperm carry out its function?
It contains enzymes that help break down the outside of the egg.
What are the typical parts that make up a plant cell?
Nucleus, vacuole, cell membrane, cytoplasm and cell wall.
What are the parts of a typical bacteria cell?
Nuclear material, ribosome, cytoplasm, cytoplasmic membrane, cell wall
What objective lens do you start with?
The lowest/smallest powered one.
How do you avoid breaking the slide in a microscope?
When using the rough focusing knob make sure to move the objective lens away from the slide to avoid them clashing together
What are the different parts of a light microscope?
Eye piece lens , body tube , rough focusing knob, high and low power objective lens, stage, mirror, fine focusing knob and handle.
What is an Euglena made up with and what are its adaptations?
It is made up of a nucleus, chloroplast and flagellum. It lives and has a tail like structure to swim (flagellum).
What is an Amoeba made up with and what are its adaptations?
It is made up of nucleus, contractile and vacuole.
Some also live in water and they use a contractile vacuole to to collect any excess water and squeeze it out.
What is the function of the mitochondria?
Where the reactions for aerobic respiration take place.
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
Where most chemical reactions happen
