Classifying materials Flashcards
What is the compressibility and density of a solid?
Solids can’t easily be compressed and are very dense.
they are very dense as there is a lot of particles in a small volume.
What is the compressibility and density of a liquid?
Liquids can’t be easily compressed because it is quite dense. So there are quite a lot of particles in a small volume.
What is the compressibility and density of a gas?
Gasses can be easily compressed because it is not dense and the particles move to fill the shape ,so there are not many particles in a large volume.
Through what processes is energy supplied when changing from one state to another?
Melting, boiling and subliming (changing from solid to gas)
Through what processes is energy given out when changing from one state to another?
freezing, condensing and subliming. ( changing from gas to solid)
