What is Power?
Power is the capacity to influence others. Power is given by others and can also be in the form of control over needed resources.
What is Positional Power?
Power that is vested in hierarchal positions.
What is Personal Power?
Power that resides within the individual and is generated through interpersonal relationships.
What is Legitimate Power?
Power of formal authority from holding a position or title from the organizational hierarchy.
What is Reward Power?
Power from the control of desired rewards (salary raise, promotions, praise).
What is Coercive Power?
Power from the use of threat / punishment to compel others.
What is Expert Power?
Power from special skills and abilities that others want or need but do not possess.
What is Referent Power?
Power from influence based on attraction or identification w/ respect to the influencer.
What is Bathsheba Syndrome?
Bathseba Syndrome identifies the corruption and moral lapses that come with success and power.
What is Power and Corruption?
Power and Corruption indicates that as power increases, compassion decreases and an ideology of self-interest and morally dubious activities increase. Other effects: donating decreases, view of a just-world increases, views of being personally deserving of power and wealth increases.
