Intellectualization- like isolation, more thought focused, avoid anxious emotion
Reaction formation- convert dangerous unconscious wishes or impulses into opposite behavior.
Repression- painful thoughts pulled into unconscious Emotion present but idea behind it absent
Regression- temporary reversion of ego to earlier stage of development
Rationalization- false reasoning to make wrong right. Excuses
Level 4 defense mechanism- emotionally healthy
Altruism- constructive service to others. Brings pleasure and satisfaction
