Potential Difference Flashcards
Define potential difference (voltage).
The work done per unit positive charge.
What is required to separate negative and positive charges?
A force is required
How is energy transferred from an object?
When force is applied to an object over a distance.
How do electrons flow?
Electrons flow from a region of low potential to a region of high potential.
A region with fewer electrons represent a HIGHER or LOWER potential?
Higher potential - high potential is the region with less electrons. (That’s why electrons flow from negative to positive ~they are going from a low potential to a high potential~)
What is the formula to finding potential difference (voltage)?
V = W/Q
Give the names and units to the following symbols;
1] V
2] W
3] Q
1] POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE/ VOLTAGE - measured in volts (v)
2] WORK DONE - measured in joules (J)
3] CHARGE - measure in coulombs (c)
1 volt = 1J.C^-1
