Posterior Leg Flashcards
Flexor digitorum longus
O: medial part of posterior surface of tibia inferior to soleal line
I: base of distal phalanges of lateral four digits
N: tibial n. (S2,3)
V: posterior tibial a
A: flexes lateral four digits, plantarflexes ankle, supports longitudinal arches of foot
Flexor hallucis longus
O: inferior two thirds of posterior surface of fibula, inferior part of interosseous mem
I: base of distal phalanx of great toe
N: tibial n (S2,3)
V: posterior tibial a
A: flexes great toe at all joints, weakly plantar flexes ankle, supports medial longitudinal arch of foot
Gastrocnemius
O: lat head- lateral aspect of lat condyle of femur. Med- popliteal surface of femur, sup to med condyle
I: posterior surface of calcaneus via calc tendon
N: tibial n. (S1,2)
V: posterior tibial a
A: plantarflexes ankle when knee extended, raises heel during walking, flexes leg at knee joint
Plantaris
O: inferior end of lat supracondylar line of femur, oblique popliteal lig
I: posterior surface of calcaneus via calc tendon
N: tibial n. (S1,2)
V: popliteal a.
A: weakly assists gastroc in plantarflexing ankle
Popliteus
O: lat surface of lat condyle of femur & lat meniscus
I: posterior surface of tibia, superior to soleal line
N: tibial n. (L4,5,S1)
V: medial inferior genicular a
A: weakly flexes knee and unlocks it by rotating femur 5 degrees on flexed tibia. Medially rotates tibia of unplanted limb
Soleus
O: posterior aspect of head and sup quarter of post surface of fibula, soleal line and middle third of medial border of tibia, tendinous arch extending b/w bony attachments
I: post surface of calcaneus via calc tendon
N: tibial n. (S1,2)
V: posterior tibial a.
A: plantarflexes ankle, steadies leg on foot
Tibialis posterior
O: interosseous mem, post surface of tibia inferior to soleal line, post surface of fibula
I: tuberosity of navicular, cuneiform, cuboid, and sustentaculum tali of calcaneus. Bases of metatarsals 2,3,4
N: tibial n. (L4,5)
V: posterior tibial a
A: plantarflexes ankle and inverts foot
