Anterior Thigh Flashcards
Iliopsoas: Psoas major
O: sides of T12-L5 vertebrae and disks, transverse processes of all vertebrae
I: lesser trochanter of femur
N: anterior rami of lumbar nerves (L1-3)
V: lumbar branch of iliolumbar a.
A: flex thigh at hip joint, stabilize joint
Pectineus
O: superior ramus of pubis
I: pectineal line o f femur
N: femoral n. (L2,3) [may receive from obturator n]
V: medial femoral circumflex & obturator aa.
A: adducts and flexes thigh/assists medial rotation
Psoas minor
O: sides of T12-L1 vertebrae & intervertebral disks
I: pectineal line, iliopectineal eminence via iliopectineal arch
N: anterior rami of lumbar n. (L1,2)
V: lumbar branch of iliolumbar a.
A: flexes thigh at hip joint, stabilizes joint
Iliacus
O: iliac crest, iliac fossa, ala of sacrum, & anterior sacro-iliac ligaments
I: tendon of Psoas major, lesser trochanter, & femur distal to it
N: femoral n (L2,3)
V: iliac branches of iliolumbar & superior gluteal aa.
A: flexes thigh at hip joint, stabilizes joint
Sartorius
O: anterior superior iliac spine & superior part of notch inferior to it
I: superior part of medial surface of tibia
N: femoral n (L2,3)
V: superficial & deep circumflex iliac, muscular branches of femoral, descending genicular & superior medial genicular
A: flex, abduct, & laterally rotates thigh at hip joint/ flex leg at knee joint (medial rotation when knee flexed)
Rectus femoris
O: anterior inferior iliac spine & ilium superior to acetabulum
I: via common tendinous & independent attachments to base of patella/indirectly via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity
N: femoral n. (L2-4)
V: lateral circumflex femoral and its descending aa.
A: extend leg at knee joint, stabilizes hip joint, helps iliopsoas flex thigh
Vastus lateralis
O: greater trochanter & lateral lip of linea aspera of femur
I: via common tendinous & independent attachments to base of patella/indirectly via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity/tibia and patella via aponeurosis
N: femoral n. (L2-4)
V: circumflex femoral a. & descending branch
A: extend leg at knee joint, stabilizes hip joint, helps iliopsoas flex thigh
Vastus medialus
O: intertrochanteric line & medial lip of linea aspera of femur
I: via common tendinous & independent attachments to base of patella/indirectly via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity/tibia and patella via aponeurosis
N: femoral n. (L2-4)
V: lateral circumflex femoral a. & descending branch
A: extend leg at knee joint, stabilizes hip joint, helps iliopsoas flex thigh
Vastus intermedius
O: anterior and lateral surfaces of shaft of femur
I: via common tendinous & independent attachments to base of patella/indirectly via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity
N: femoral n. (L2-4)
V: lateral femoral circumflex a. & descending branch
A: extend leg at knee joint, stabilizes hip joint, helps iliopsoas flex thigh
