posterior compartment muscles Flashcards
What are the posterior compartment muscles?
smimembranous
semitendinous
biceps femurs long head
biceps femoral short head
What is the origin of the semi membranous muscle?
ischial tuberosity
What is the origin of the semitendonous muscles?
ischial tuberosity
What is the origin of the biceps femoris long head muscle?
ischial tuberosity
What is the origin of the biceps femoris short head muscle?
linea aspera
What is the insertion of the semimembranous?
medial tibial condyle
What is the insertion of semotendinous?
pes anserinus
What is th insertion of biceps long/short head?
head of fibula
What is the action of the hamstrings?
Powerful hip extensors
knee flexors
What are the other actions of he semi MM?
medially rotate thigh and leg
What are other actions of the biceps femoris?
laterally rotate thigh & leg
What is the innervation of the hamstrings?
tibial component of sciatic N
except short head of Biceps femoris (peroneal component)
What is the blood supply to the hamstrings?
Proximal: inferior gluteal artery
Middle: perforating AA from profunda femoris A
Distal: popliteal artery
What does the hamstrings supply for the femur?
supply most of the power stroke for the femur in running. Runner’s starting block posture lengthens the lever arm from the hamstrings to the acetabulum.
Where does the sciatic nerve run?
down the posterior thigh between hamstrings and adductors
