Anterior muscles of the thigh Flashcards
What are the anterior muscles of the thigh?
Sartorious
quadraceps femoris
What are the quadriceps femoris muscles?
Rectus femoris
vastus medialis
vastus intermedius
vastus lateralis
What is the origin of the
quadraceps femoris?
Rectus -ASIS
vastus -femoral shaft below intertrochanteric line
What is the innervation of the anterior compartment muscles?
femoral nerve
What is the action of the quads?
Major knee extensors
What is the insertion of the quads?
quadriceps tendon and
superior patella
tibial tuberosity via patellar tendon
What is the blood supply of the quads?
branch of deep femoral artery
lateral circumflex femoral A, esp. its descending branch
What is the origin of the sartorious?
ASIS
What is the insertion of the sartorious?
proximal tibia as part of pes anserinus
What is specula about sartorious?
Longest muscle in the body, and the only one whose
fibers cross both the hip and the knee
What is the action of sartorious?
Flexes, abducts, and laterally rotates thigh,
flexes knee
essentially “unwinds” developmental rotations!
pulls legs into crossed legs position
What is pes anserinus?
Latin for (“goose foot”):
insertion of sartorius,
gracilis,
semitendinosus distal to medial condyle of tibia.
What is sgt FOT?
Sartorius: inserts superior to gracilis Femoral nerve
Gracilis: inserts just distal to medial condyle of tibia Obturator nerve
semiTendinosus: inserts inferior to gracilis Tibial div of sciatic N
