Posterior comp of leg Flashcards
What are the muscles in the superficial layer of the posterior compartment of the leg? what is their innervation?
And what is their common function?
Gastronemius
Soleus
Plantaris
Innervation = Tibial Nerve (S1, S2)
common function = plantar flexion
what are the deep muscles of the posterior compartment of the leg?
What is their innervation?
Popliteus
Flexor Digitorum Longus
Flexor Hallucis longus
Tibialis Posterior
Innervation = Tibial nerve
What is the origin of Gastronemius?
Medial head = Posterior surface of the distal Femur
Lateral head = Upper Posterolateral surface of LATERAL FEMORAL CONDYLE
What is the insertion of Gastrocnemius?
Via CALCANEAL TENDON to posterior surface of calcaneus.
What is the innervation of Gastrocnemius?
Tibial nerve
S1, S2
What is the action of gastrocnemius?
Plantar flexion of foot
Flexes knee
What is the origin of Plantaris?
Inferior part of the LATERAL SUPERCONDYLAR LINE of FEMUR.
Oblique popliteal ligament of knee
What is the insertion of Plantaris?
Via CALCANEAL TENDON to posterior surface of Calcaneus.
What is the innervation of Plantaris?
Tibial Nerve
S1, S2
what is the action of plantaris?
Plantar flexes foot
Flexes knee
What is the origin of Soleus?
Soleal line (on tibia) Medial border of TIBIA Posterior aspect of FIBULAR HEAD. Adjacent surfaces of neck of fibular Proximal shaft of FIBULA Tendinous between tibial and fibular attachments
What is the insertion of Soleus?
Via Calcaneal tendon to posterior surface of calcaneus
What is the innervation of Soleus?
Tibial Nerve
S1, S2
What is the action of Soleus?
Plantar-Flexes the foot
What is the origin of popliteus?
Lateral Femoral Condyle
What is the insertion of popliteus?
Posterior surface of proximal tibia
What is the innervation of popliteus?
Tibial nerve
L4, L5, S1
what is the action of popliteus?
Stabilizes knee joint by resisting lateral rotation of tibia on femur.
UNLOCKS knee joint by laterally rotating femur on fixed tibia.
What is the origin of Flexor Digitorum Longus?
Medial surface of TIBIA
What is the insertion of Flexor digitorum longus?
Plantar surface of bases of distasl phalanges of the lateral 4 toes
What is the innervation of Flexor digitorum longus?
Tibial Nerve
S2, S3
What is the action of the Flexor Digitorum Longus?
Flexes the lateral 4 toes
What is the origin of Flexor hallucis longus?
Posterior surface of the fibula
and ajacent interosseous membrane
What is the insertion of Flexor hallucis longus?
Plantar surface of the distal phalanx of the great toe
what is the innervation of flexor hallucis longus?
Tibial nerve (S2, S3)
what is the action of flexor hallucis longus?
flexes great toe
What is the origin of tibialis posterior?
Interosseous membrane between tibia and fibula
and
posterior surface of tibia and fibula
What is the insertion of tibialis posterior?
Plantar surface of medial tarsal bones
What is the innervation of tibialis posterior?
Tibial Nerve
What is the action of tibialis posterior?
Inverts foot.
Plantarflexion
