Plantar aspect of foot - LAYER 2 Flashcards
What are the contents of the 2nd layer of the plantar aspect of the foot?
Muscles :
Lumbricals (4X)
Quadratus Plantae
Tendons:
Flexor Digitorum Longus
Flexor Hallucis Longus
What is the origin of the Lumbricals?
1st Lumbrical : The medial side of the tendon of Flexor Digitorum Longus associated with digit 2.
Lumbricals 2, 3, 4 from the adjacent sides of the tendons.
What is the insertion of the Lumbricals?
Medial free margin of the Extensor Hoods of toes 2 to 5.
What is the innervation of the Liumbricals?
The 1st Lumbrical, (which is assocuiated with toe 2 = MEDIAL PLANTAR NERVE
Lumbricals 2, 3, 4 = LATERAL PLANTAR NERVE
(S1, S2)
What is the action of the Lumbricals?
FLEXION of metatarsophalangeal joint.
EXTENSION of interphalangeal joints.
What is the origin of Quadratus Plantae?
Medial Surface of the CALCANEUS.
Lateral Process of the CALCANEAL Tuberosity.
What is the insertion of Quadratus Plantae?
Lateral side of tendon of FLEXOR DIGITORUM LONGUS (in proximal sole of foot)
What is the innervation of Quadratus Plantae?
Lateral Plantar Nerve
S1, S2, S3
What is the function of Quadratus Plantae?
Assists Flexor Digitorum Longus in FLEXION of toes 2 to 5.
What is the origin of Flexor Digitorum Longus?
Medial surface of TIBIA
What is the insertion of Flexor Digitorum Longus?
Plantar surface of base of DISTAL phalanx of toes 2 to 5.
What is the innervation of Flexor Digitorum Longus?
Tibial Nerve
S2, S3
What is the action of Flexor Digitorum Longus?
Flexes lateral 4 toes
What is the origin of Flexor Hallucis Longus?
Posterior Surface of Fibula
and adjacent interosseous membrane
What is the insertion of Flexor Hallucis Longus?
Great Toe.
Plantar surface.
Base of DISTAL phalanx.
