Q

Describe the Quadriceps

A

Quadriceps Femoris is made up of 4 Muscles:

  • Rectus Femoris
  • Vastus Medialis
  • Vastus Lateralis
  • Vastus Intermedialis

All join to form 1 tendon, the Quadriceps Femoris tendon that attached to the patella, (It is continuous with the Patella tendon that attches the patella to the Tibial tuberosity.

Q

Describe the superficial muscles in the posterior compartment of the leg?
Innervation, Insertion, common function

A

Gastronemius (medial and lateral heads)
Soleus
Plantaris

Innervated by the Tibial nerve.
Common Function = Plantar-Flexion of foot

Gastroneumius and Soleus form the Calcaneal tendon and insert into the calcaneus. Plantaris tendon blends with the calcaneal tendon.
