the letter is the acceptance (not an offer or counter offer)
letter is the usual or expected way of communication
offeree must be able to prove the letter was posted
(if these requirements are met, the acceptance occurs at the moment the letter is posted, not when the offeror received or reads the letter, even if the letter has been lost)
