continuous bleeding starting during surgery

- usually due to infection
what is a reactive haemorrhage at surgery ?
bleeding at end of surgery usually due to increased CO and BP
what medication can cause urinary retention ?
opioids
epidural
anti AChM
as well as medication what else can cause urinary retention ?
pain - sympathetic activation
psychogenic - hospital environment
what are risk factors for urinary retention during surgery ?
male
increased age
neuropathy - alcohol, DM
BPH
what is pulmonary atelectasia?
a complete or partial collapse of a lung or lobe of a lung
what are some causes of pulmonary atelectasia?
pre op smoking
anaesthesia which increases mucus production and decreases mucociliary clearance
pain inhibits cough
what are some risk factors for wound infection ?
increased age, smoking, obesity, malnutrition, DM, uraemia, chronic cough, steroids, chemo, RT
op classification, duration, pre op Abx
contamination from staff
what is wound dehiscence ?
10days post op when the wound re opens
