What things should be taken into consideration when setting up a Decon area?

A

Elevation: Uphill from the hot zone

Wind: Upwind from the hot zone

Space: Large enough to accommodate number of people needing decon

Drainage: Avoid creating slip hazards and beware of runoff

Safety: Out of collapse zone and safe from vehicle traffic or other hazards

Supplies: All supplies are laid out and in good condition and accessible

A

Minimal water should be used.

Brush off as much debris as possible

Don disposable coveralls over bunker gear until proper decon can be done at the station.

What is the goal of stage 2 decon?

A

To keep the cab of the apparatus clean as possible and to avoid secondary contamination back at the fire station. Must be done before entering the apparatus and before leaving the incident scene.

A

Exit the hot zone and before entering rehab area or apparatus, perform a gross decon

What are the steps of doffing contaminated gear?

A
  1. Take extra caution to ensure gear has as little skin contact as possible
  2. Remove helmet while wearing fire gloves
  3. Have another member remove gloves, or do so as you would medical gloves
  4. Don medical gloves and then proceed to doff rest of bunker gear
  5. Empty pockets and place gear in clear plastic bags
  6. Fill out a duty gear/inspection tag
