- Maintains good links between constituency and MP
- Each constituency elects one representative
- Provides a clear link so people know who to speak to
- Local MP David Mundell holds surgeries at Lockerbie Town Hall to speak to his constituents and allows them to voice concerns
- Gives power to voters and makes local MPs recognisable and accountable

- One party usually wins majority of constituencies meaning they can easily carry out their manifesto
- Every election between 1975-2005 has resulted in a majority government
- Shows purpose of government and empowers the winner

- It’s not uncommon for a MP to resign or pass away
- FPTP allows a by-election to be held to re-elect a MP
