Define Strengths and Virtues
Virtues are core characteristics. They are valued by moral philosophers and religious thinkers, and are Universal. Virtues have to be judged above threshold level for a person to be judged of good character.
Character Strengths are the psychological processes that define virtues. They are widely seen and valued by people and not all strengths of a virtue have to be displayed to demonstrate the virtue for which they are building blocks for.
List the 6 Core Virtues?
- Wisdom- acquisition and use of knowledge
- Courage- Emotional strengths that involve exercise of will in the face of opposition
- Humanity- interpersonal strengths that involve tending and befriending others
- Justice- Civic Strengths that underlie healthy community life
- Temperance- Strengths that protect against excess
- Transcendence- Strengths that form connections to the larger universe and provide meaning
Name the 4 Strengths of the Classification Scheme (of Virtues)?
- It contains and overall structure of moral Values
- Includes a Manageable number of character strengths
- Character Strengths are considered as individual differences
- Pays attention to both Validity and Reliability
Define Languishing
A life of quiet despair. The individual is in a state of mind, where they have no positive emotions towards their life, are not functioning well psychologically or socially and have not been depressed in the last year

What is prevention of mental Disorders?
concerned with the specific condition- and the aim is to reduce incidence, prevalence, seriousness of it. The information of interest is mortality, morbidity and risk behaviours
What is Promotion of Mental Health?
Focus is on positive mental health and quality of life- aim is to build strengths, competencies, social and personal resources that act as reserves in the face of adversity.
It is important to create Positive Institutions and Communities that foster the preconditions of mental health.
