- Pre-hepatic due to VENOUS THROMBOSIS
- Intra-hepatic due to sinusoidal (liver capillaries) or hepatic diseases or viruses
- Post-hepatic due to some disorder in the heart

Ascites: peritoneal fluid accumulation (build up of fluid in abdomen)
Collateral circulation vein development: PALM TREE SIGN or CAPUT MEDUSAE ser ut som träd av venerna på magen
Splenomegaly: increased spleen size

Diagnosis of Portal hypertension
A
Laboratory tests: • Low protein levels, • Increased AST, ALT, AP, GGT, • Increased bilirubin, • Ammonia in arterial blood.
Imaging test
- Ultrasound (portal diameter)
- CT scan
