What does Garrafeira indicate?
Wines that are aged in cask for at least 4 years, maximum 8 years, with an additional minimum 15 years of bottle maturing.
What does Crusted indicate?
This term indicates that the wine has been matured and has left sediment in the bottle.
What does VVO indicate?
For wines over 80 years old (Cannot have an age statement on the bottle just VVO/W)
What does Reserva/Reserve indicate?
This term implies greater quality when used for “Ruby” Port but it does not carry any minimum aging requirement. If accompanied by the term “Tawny” or “White” the wine must have been cask-aged for at least 6 years.
What does Colheita indicate?
Tawny wines from a single vintage aged in cask for a minimum of 7 years.
What does the term Envelhicido em Garrafa refer to?
‘Bottle-matured’ LBV wines
-additionally aged for 3 years in bottle.
Aging requirements for Ruby Port
2-3 years in wood, cement or stainless steel prior to bottling
Aging requirements for Vintage Port/Single Quinta Vintage Port.
Wines must be bottled by July 30 of the third year after harvest.
Wines may be sold from May 1 of the second year after harvest.
Aging requirements for LBV Port.
Wines are aged in cask for at least four years and bottled before December 31 of the sixth year after harvest.
What does Velho indicate?
Tawny that is 10-30 years old.
What does Muito Velho indicate?
Tawny that is at least 40 years old.

Originally Pisca but called Bioma since the second vintage. Made in a more oxidative, pre-1970 style. During the initial two years of aging, the pipes are kept in Douro instead of Vila Nova de Gaia. Inaugural vintage 2007.
