El Salvador: Crackdown on gang violence. Formed own political party and campaignedagainst corrupt elites. About 2% of adult population (c.72,000) detainedwithout trial in 16 months; no reason for arrestrequired. Bukele’s approval rating = 90%, homicide per100,000 down from 103 in 2015 to >3.
