Population Genetics Flashcards
What happens when a SNP is common and when it is rare
If a SNP is common then that means it doesnt affect the function of the protein significantly and hence there is no selective pressure against it. It is the opposite for rare SNPs
Polygenic or multigenic traits
Genes that have a far more significant affect when combined with other genes than the effect they have by themsleves
Concordance
When both of the twins have the same gene or they are lacking a gene. This can and also cannot result in a disease
Linkage studies
These are done to determine if the gene can be linked to the phenotype
Association
When 2 alleles or phenotypes occur together in a population, they are termed as associated
