Population Genetics 2 Flashcards
1
Q
Define microevolution.
A
Changes in the structure of a population/species.
2
Q
Define macroevolution.
A
Evolution on a scale above species level.
3
Q
What are the 4 main forces that cause a population to evolve?
A
- Migration
- Mutation
- Drift
- Selection.
4
Q
Define ‘genetic drift’.
A
When some individuals by chance do not pass on their alleles to next generation and others by chance pass on more than their “fair share”
This effect causes changes in allele frequency between generations - genetic drift.
