What does population mean?
The number of people living in a place
Why does the government need to know the population?
So that they can develop and improve the quality of life
What factors lead to a dense population?
Easy trade and access, lots of roads and railways, warm climates, lots of goods for trading
What factors lead to a sparse population?
Hard to get around, mountainous, hard to build on, hard to get resources from forests, swamps and mountains
Why are people living longer in the uk?
Better working conditions, better medicines, more wealth, less people smoking
What is a population structure?
How many males and females of different ages are in the population
What is migration?
Movement from one pace to another
What is immigration?
Moving into another country
What is emigration?
Moving out of one country into another
What is economic migration?
Moving to another area to find work
What is an asylum seeker?
A person who left their home country and is seeking asylum
What is illegal immigration
When someone arrives in a country without permission
What is a chloropleth map?
A map that uses different colours or shading to show the distribution of information
Why is Leicester such a large city?
Because it has flatland for building ,good transport links and it’s in the middle of an important farming region
What is a push factor?
Why you leave a place
What is internal migration?
Moving from one place in the UK to another.
What is a hamlet?
Isolated cluster of houses or farms, usually with no shops or services
What is a commuter village?
A village often with housing Estates, close to a town or city. People live there but commute to work elsewhere
