The level of wealth and resources/ facilities availiable to people

The general wellbeing based on a person or society defined in terms of health and happiness

What are some differences between Malawi and Singapore?
Singapore: GDP per capita $65,233 per person, 15% in poverty, very little farmland and natural resources, main business is a shipping hub, finance is earned by importing and processing oil and chemicals
Malawi: GDP per capita $780 per person , 50.7% in poverty, lots of farmland and natural resources, main business is agriculture, finances earned by farming and tobacco export
Reasons why the development gap has grown:
Historical reasons, physical reasons, social reasons, conflict and corruption, reliance on few exports, and lack of industry
what is a HIPC?
Highly indebited poor country
Countries with high poverty and debt and can get special assistance from the IMF and World Bank
What is an NGO
Non-government Organisation
charities such as Oxfam which help people but arent part of the government
what is a micro finance
Non-government organisations give small loans to people to help them set up a business
What is a TNC?
Transnational corporation
Company that has operations like factories,research and shops in multiple countries
What strategies help reduce the development gap?
Help, aid, non-government organisations, help from technology, manufactory and TNCs and fair trade
How does self-help reduce the development gap?
The poorer countries do their best to stop crimes try new crops build factories educate and train people and build more schools and hospitals
How does aid help reduce the development gap?
Rich countries help poor countries by giving them money and loans. there are long-term and emergency aids
What are the UN sustainable goals?
They are 17 goals to transform our world. They encourage development in all countries. They include things such as no poverty, zero hunger, good education, gender equality climate action, and peace and justice
