The number of people living in a place.
Give examples of densely populated areas in the world:
Europe, Eastern side of US, Japan.
What are habitable environments?
Areas where conditions are good for humans to live. e.g. river valleys, lowland plains, coastal plains.
Give an example of human adaptation to environment:
Eskimos build igloos.
What happened to population in the 20th century?
It exploded.
Why did the population increase in 20th century?
Death rate decreased (less poverty, better medicine, vaccinations)
Birth rate increased.

How many people live in particular areas.
What does over population mean?
Too many people living in one areas relative to its resources.
What does under population mean?
Too few people living in an area relative to its resources.
What is the population density of Bangladesh?
5200 people per square km.
What is the population density of the UK?
988 people per square km.

What do you need to take into account in this number?
262 people per square km.
A high percentage of Russia is snow covered and uninhabitable so as a measure the average is not completely representative.
