Pool Rule Enforcement Flashcards
What are three methods lifeguards at Rancho Pool use to enforce facility rules and promote safe patron behavior while preventing injuries?
Clear, Respectful and Consistent
How do lifeguards at Rancho Pool enforce facility rules to prevent injuries and encourage safe patron behavior by being CLEAR?
Be firm, confident and professional.
Use similar language as the pool rules.
Be loud so you can be heard.
Be brief. If you need assistance, call for manager.
How do lifeguards at Rancho Pool enforce facility rules to prevent injuries and encourage safe patron behavior by being RESPECTFUL?
You can be firm, but keep your tone respectful.
Explain the reason for the rule to the patron to encourage compliance.
Be aware of your nonverbal communication. Ex: eye rolling.
How do lifeguards at Rancho Pool enforce facility rules to prevent injuries and encourage safe patron behavior by being CONSISTENT?
Everyone on the aquatics team needs to enforce the rules consistently with every patron. If one lifeguard permits a patron to break a rule, it makes it more difficult for the other lifeguards to enforce the same rule, both with that patron in the future and with other patrons.
What are some general pool rules?
- No running on the pool deck, you may run on the grass.
- You must wear a proper bathing suit at all times. No t-shirts, bras, basketball shorts, jean shorts, cut off shorts, or street clothes allowed.
- Shower before entering the water.
- No floatation devices allowed. Coast Guard approved life vest only.
- Do not hang on or play on the lane lines. They are for lap swimmers only.
- For the safety and privacy of all guests, the use of GoPro cameras or similar devices is strictly prohibited in the pool. Additionally, filming or photographing other patrons without their consent is not allowed. Guests found using such devices will be asked to stop immediately and may be asked to leave the premises. We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a respectful and comfortable environment for everyone.
What is the swim test rule and requirement?
Please see lifeguard at shallow tower. You must swim across (25 yards) without touching the bottom, the rope or grabbing the lane lines. Everyone (incl. adults) must take a swim test before entering the deep end.
What are some shallow end rules?
- No diving, flipping, or jumping in backwards.
- No chicken fights, throwing kids, or hanging on each other’s backs.
- Non swimmers wearing a lifejacket, must be accompanied in the water by an adult.
What are some diving board rules?
- No running on the diving boards.
- No back flips, gainers, or inward dives (you may jump, twist, dive or flip).
- You are allowed one forward bounce on the board.
- Once you enter the water, exit at the ladders or swim under the rope into the 6ft area.
- Do not hang out in the diving area, it is not a play area .
There are 9 rules to use the aquatrack, what are they?
- Every participant must pass the swim test (every time) prior to using the Aqua Track.
- Only 2 participants at a time on the track.

- Do not swim under or over lane lines to climb onto Aqua Track, you must enter from the line on the deck.
- No racing is allowed.
- When you have finished, please exit the water using the ladder immediately. Do not hang out in the area, it is not a play area .
What are some rules for the 6 foot area?
- No diving, flipping, or jumping in backwards.
- Do not swim from the 6ft area into the diving board area.
- Do not hang your hands and feet inside the gutter, we do not want you getting stuck.
How old does a child have to be to be left alone at Rancho Pool?
14 years and older
Children 13 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult throughout the duration of their stay.
What is the rule for non-toilet trained individuals?
All non-toilet trained individuals are required to wear two snug fitting swim diapers in the water at all times. The outer diaper must be a snug fitting non-disposable diaper, and the inner diaper can be either an additional non-disposable diaper OR a reusable swim diaper. The inner diaper must be completely covered by the outer non-disposable swim diaper as an extra barrier of protection. If you think there is ANY possibility of your child having an accident, please put swim diapers on them. If your child soils their diaper during the course of a swim lesson, they must be taken immediately to the bathroom to be changed. Do not wait until swim is over to change your child’s diaper, do not change diapers on the pool deck.
