What are the five steps to follow during a lockdown?
- IDENTIFY A POSSIBLE THREAT EXISTS
- CALL 911 & ALERT MANAGEMENT
- LOCK ALL ENTRANCES TO POOL FACILITY
- EVACUATE POOL & DECK TO SAFE SPACE
- WAIT FOR CLEARANCE
STEP 1: IDENTIFY A POSSIBLE THREAT EXISTS
What do you do during this step?
Lifeguard or Manager does 1 LONG air horn blast to notify all staff of a potential threat and to begin executing the Lockdown Procedure.
Potential threats: weapon, threatening behavior, police chase/activity.
STEP 2: CALL 911 & ALERT MANAGEMENT
Immediately call 911 if it is safe to do so.
If possible, call/text Erin 805-501-9091 or Danielle 818-434-6707.
STEP 4: EVACUATE POOL & DECK TO SAFE SPACE.
What do you do during this step?
Manager and staff on duty should move everyone to a safe space.
Guard Room, Locker Rooms, Bungalow (if needed). Lock all doors, turn off all lights, and silence all devices as quickly as possible.
STEP 3: LOCK ALL ENTRANCES TO POOL FACILITY
What do you do during this step?
Manager or designated staff should immediately lock the front gate. If patrons want to leave the facility, now is the time to do so.
STEP 3 & 4 SHOULD HAPPEN SIMULTANEOUSLY
STEP 5: WAIT FOR CLEARANCE
What do you do during this step?
When police arrive, keep in mind that they do not know the suspect. Do not try to run toward them or make sudden movements. Make sure participants and staff stay where they are until it is safe and the police advise them to move.
