Polymers Flashcards

1
Q

What are polymers?

A

Polymers are long molecules formed when lots of small molecules called monomers join together. This reaction is called polymerisation.

Q

What is condensation polymerisation?

A

Condensation polymerisation involves monomers which contain different functional groups.

1) The monomers join together and form bonds between them, making polymer chains
2) For each new bond that forms, a small molecule (water) is lost
3) This is why it is called polymerisation condensation
