Q

How do carboxylic acids react?

A
  • Carboxylic acids react to produce a salt, water and carbon dioxide
  • The salts formed in these reaction end in ‘anoate’
  • eg, methanoic acid will form a methanoate

Q

How do carboxylic acids react with water?

A
  • Carboxylic acids can dissolve in water
  • When they dissolve they ionise and release H+ ions
  • However they do not ionise completely, so they form weak acidic solutions
