what is polyhydramnios
A
abnormally large level of amniotic fluid

aetiology of polyhydramnios
A
idiopathic
some causes can be:
- any condition that prevents the fetus from swallowing (oesophageal atresia, CNS, hernia)
- duodenal atresia
- anaemia
- maternal diabetes
- macrosomnia
- twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome

clinical presentation of polyhydramnios
A
abdominal discomfort
pre-labour rupture of membranes
preterm labour
cord prolapse
LFD
malpresentation
tense shiny abdomen
inability to feel fetal parts

investigations for polyhydramnios
A
US:
- amniotic fluid index > 25, DVP >8cm
- assess fetal size, and anatomy
maternal OGTT
karyotyping
TORCH screen
antibody screen
