chronic anovulation w abnormal menses
hyperandrogenism
polycystic ovaries (obviously)
also associated with obesity, increased risk for diabetes or CV disease and hirsutism (male pattern facial hair)
what are the signs and sx of PCOS?
menstrual disorder (e.g. amenorrhea to menorrhagia)
infertility
skin disorders
insulin resistance
what are some labs to run for PCOS?
FSH
LH
Prolactin
TSH
Hemoglobin A1C
Lipid
what is the treatment for PCOS?
weight loss (can help induce ovulaiton)
metformin (anti diabetic med)
attempting pregnancy- ovarian stimulation with meds/surgery
non attempting pregnancy- contraceptives, LNG IUD
all the treatments for hirsutism
