polyatomic ions Flashcards
1
Q
number 1 rule!
A
Polyatomic ions cannot be altered. For example, SO₄¯² must always stay as SO₄¯²
2
Q
but what is there is more than one?
A
to indicate more than one polyatomic ion, use brackets with a subscript.
3
Q
what are polyatomic ions
A
Polyatomic ions are groups of atoms (non-metals) that have an overall charge. They behave as an overall ion particle.
* Ca(OH)₂ indicates one calcium ion and two hydroxide ions
* Al₂ (SO₄)₃ indicates two aluminium ions and three sulphate ions.
