group 1/2/13 Flashcards
1
Q
how many electrons are in group 1’s outershell
A
it has one electron, meaning that the element is unstable due to the fact that it does not have a complete outershell. all elements in group one are unstable and very reactive
2
Q
do they get more reactive?
A
yes! as you move down the periods, the elements in group one get more reactive
3
Q
how do elements become stable
A
If the element can lose the outer-shell electron than it becomes a stable “atom”
4
Q
are ions different to a regular atom
A
However, as all atoms have equal protons and electrons, this “atom” is now called an ion.
5
Q
if an atom is an ion and it is located in group 1, what is it’s charge
A
- If the atom becomes an ion, it now becomes a charged ion with +1 charge.
6
Q
group 2 ion?
A
- If the atom becomes an ion and it is located in group 2, it becomes a charged ion, with +2 charge
7
Q
group 13 ion?
A
- If the atom becomes an ion and it is located in group 13, it becomes a charged ion, with +3 charge
